Why We Built This
The honest answer is frustration.
For years, whenever someone asked us how to find a good web design agency, we would go looking for a resource worth recommending. We kept finding the same things: listicles stuffed with sponsored placements, directories where every agency had paid for a profile, and ranking articles that were clearly written by people who had never actually hired or worked inside an agency in their lives.
"The information existed in fragments, distributed across years of conference talks, design blogs, and word-of-mouth conversations between practitioners. But no one had assembled it into something a non-expert could actually use."
So we built it ourselves.
Who We Are
This is an independent editorial project run by a small team with direct experience in web design, digital strategy, and brand development. Between us, we have designed digital products and brand systems for companies ranging from early-stage startups to global enterprises. We have sat on award juries evaluating agency work. We have been on both sides of the briefing table, as clients hiring agencies and as practitioners pitching and delivering projects.
We understand this industry from the inside, including the gap that frequently exists between how agencies present themselves and what working with them actually looks like.

What Makes This Different
Most agency guides are structured around whoever is paying to appear in them. Ours is structured around the reader.
Every agency in this guide has been evaluated against the same criteria, documented openly in our selection process page. Placement is earned, not purchased. Agencies do not know they are being evaluated and have no opportunity to influence the outcome. When we remove an agency because their quality has declined or their client relationships have deteriorated, we do so without notification.
We also treat this as a guide in the truest sense, not just a list. The selection of agencies is only one part of what we publish. Equally important is the guidance on how to hire, what to ask, what to avoid, and how to evaluate what you receive. We want people to leave this resource better equipped to make good decisions, not just armed with a list of names.
A Note on Independence
Editorial independence is not a marketing position for us. It is the only thing that makes this guide worth reading. We are transparent about our methodology, responsive to corrections, and willing to remove or revise any placement where the evidence warrants it.
If you have worked with an agency featured here and believe our assessment is inaccurate, we want to hear from you.
[email protected]Get in Touch
We are a small team and we read everything that comes in.
Here is how to reach us depending on what you need. We aim to respond to all messages within three business days.
Suggest an Agency
If you know an agency doing exceptional work that is not currently featured in the guide, we want to hear about it. Tell us who they are, what makes them worth including, and ideally point us toward specific work or client outcomes that demonstrate their quality.
Report an Inaccuracy
If you believe something in the guide is factually wrong, outdated, or unfair, please let us know. Include as much specific information as you can: what the error is, what the correct information should be, and any documentation that supports your position.
Share Your Agency Experience
Have you worked with one of the agencies featured here, either as a client or as a practitioner? We are always interested in firsthand accounts that help us assess the ongoing quality and working culture of the studios we cover. All submissions are reviewed confidentially.
Press and Editorial
If you are a journalist or editor and would like to speak with someone from the team about our methodology, our findings, or the state of the web design industry more broadly, we are happy to make time.
